Visual Genesis

A Journey Through Imagery and Design

About image
As a child growing up in the 70's when creativity was blossoming I gravitated towards the arts. Being a creative person, I explored as many platforms of creativity and media as I could. Of course, growing up in the pre-digital era I was lucky to be exposed to early stages of computers by my Father who was a programmer and computer analyst. Naturally my thirst for knowledge peaked my curiosity and I wanted to explore art in the emerging digital age. After graduating high school, I attended South Eastern Massachusetts University to study graphic design and photography and then transferred to The University of Hartford to complete my bachelor’s degree.

After graduating college, I became a pre-press artist and sports and portrait photographer. My work allowed me to meet many incredible people and foster great relationships with my clientele. Thus began my true love of connecting with people on a higher level. I continued to develop my skills as a photographer and communicator for 8 years when I embarked on a new career in Boston at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Here I became the Principal Photographer, Photo Editor and Manager of the Graphics and Photography Department. My responsibilities at Brigham and Women's Hospital included overseeing, executing and scheduling photo shoots, image editing and distribution of print media to all departments within Partners Healthcare. I worked closely with the Development Team and Marketing to cover photoshoots for medical articles, text books and cutting-edge research and medical breakthroughs. I also worked with the hospital's historical archives department restoring pictures and preserving them.  One of my most notable of projects is "The Healers of Our Century", where I collaborated with Mrs. Estrellita Karsh, the wife of Yousuf Karsh, the late world-renowned portrait photographer.

During my 13 year career at Brigham and Women's Hospital, I was able to meet many of today's greatest physicians, researchers and scientists. My photography has been published in many prestigious national publications such as Newsweek, JAMA, including a cover photograph for Modern Healthcare magazine. My photography has also been published in Nicholas Tilney M.D.'s best-selling book "A Perfectly Striking Departure: Surgeons and Surgery at The Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, 1912-1980."

In 2007 I attended Boston University Center for Digital Imaging Arts to keep my skills current with the growing technology. Here I received a degree in Web Design and Development. While studying at Boston University my weekend travels to Cape Cod led me to get involved with a lifelong dream of producing a television show. After classes at Provincetown Public Television for film production and editing, I co-wrote, co-produced and co-hosted a half hour television news/variety show called "Str8-Up Provincetown" for public access television and a ten-minute news blog called "Provincetown News.” As the show became popular it was aired in several major cities including Boston and Manhattan. It had a great run of 5 years and I was able to meet local business owners, artists, performers and political figures.

My most recent projects have included a collaboration with Empire Education Corp. I was hired to assist their Marketing department in creating and adding a fresh perspective to their new advertising campaign. My cross platform of skills led their team to a very effective ad campaign and branding package. My diverse background and experiences have more recently led me to the position of Communications Director at The Brain Food Garden Project. I have been very excited to be a part of the team at the Brain Food Garden Project. The Project's cause is very near and dear to my heart. My connections and experience working with many great physicians and research scientists has given me an amazing insight and understanding of the physiology of the human body and its ability to heal. My experiences with many people of all different backgrounds and interests, have given me an even greater understanding of empathy and spiritual connection we all have within. I feel I have found a home and community where I can truly grow and follow my passions and bring others on that journey with me.

My Passion as an artist will always continue to grow as much as this earth revolves. I continue to offer my design and photographic services independently and continue to create art when the moment presents itself. Visual Genesis was created in order that I may continue to offer my visual services to those seeking a creative experience from conceptualization to completion that lasts long after its revelation. Please enjoy the journey with me!
